Maybe Imus Helped After All

Three "N" Word related items in today's EurWeb...

  • NAACP TO BURY N-WORD - The N-word is officially dead to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The civil rights organization, which held a symbolic funeral in Detroit for the demise of Jim Crow in 1963, will hold a similar service for the N-word during their national convention July 7-12 in Detroit.

  • SHARPTON TO CO-LEAD MARCH FOR DECENCY - Reverend Al Sharpton, representing his National Action Network (NAN), is scheduled to co-lead a March for Decency in Music on James Browns' birthday, Thursday, May 3. The march will kick off at 55th and Madison at Sony Music and head south to the Warner Music Group Building (75 Rockefeller Plaza), and then on to Universal Music (49th & 8th), and then on to the Time Warner Building (58th and Broadway). The final stop will be Columbus Circle for a rally.

  • CHAMILLIONAIRE IS NOW N-WORD FREE - Houston rapper Chamillionaire, who has never been one to toss around the B-word or F-bomb in his lyrics, has now added the N-word to a list of terms that he will not use on his upcoming album, "Ultimate Victory."
I applaud Rev. Al and Chamillionaire for at least trying to do something constructive. I personally view the "N" word as self hating and no better than cursing, so trying to clean up rap is laudable, although it still won't make me fork over $15 for Lil' Mama or DJ Unck.

On the other hand, the NAACP is so incredibly out of touch. A bunch of 65 year olds who haven't been using the "N" word for decades holding a mock funeral is tantamount to preaching to the choir. No wonder young people don't think this organization relates to them.
