We've All Been Had! I Love New York Is Totally Fake.

Ok, I know I should know better, so please save the drama. Still, finding out that my favorite reality show is even more staged than I would have ever suspected was a bit like the morning I woke up early on Christmas and found my Dad cussin' while struggling to assemble my Big Wheel. There was no Santa. This cold hard fact was heavy stuff for an 8 year old.

Thus, while I was smart enough to figure out that VH1's Minstrel Revue (Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Charm School etc.) was scripted to a degree, I didn't know it was to the degree that MediaTakeOut exposed recently.

Not only are New York and her Klingon Mother not related in real life, but Sister Patterson is only 5 years older.

Wowzers! Among the other revelations:

  • Mom and New York have both auditioned for the same reality shows before.
  • New York was rejected from "The Bachelor" three times.
  • Most of the contestants on FoL and ILNY are actors who have been on other reality shows.
  • New York was a former exotic dancer (no real shocker there).

Well just pee on my Cornflakes, why don't ya'? In the grand scheme of things, this is hardly important, or earth shattering of course, but it does taint the show a little. Just like when it was uncovered that the winner of Missy Elliott's reality show was already a recording artist who'd made songs with Timbaland and well, Missy, in the past, this is one secret I would rather have not discovered.

I Love New York 2 is already in pre-production. I'll have to find another guilty pleasure.
