Okay, we knew it was coming soon enough [||], but I didn't expect it the next day. The identity of Eliot Spitzer's $4500 jumpoff was revealed, and the internet's going nuts as predicted.
New details emerged Wednesday about the call girl at the center of the prostitution scandal engulfing New York's governor, with a newspaper report identifying her as a 22-year-old aspiring musician from Manhattan.The cable talking heads are already talking sympathetically about how this woman's life's been destroyed, how she might be dealing with PTSD, and pondering how she can possibly move forward with her life after having been outed. Meanwhile, this space cadet is saying she didn't even know it was the Governor she was... uhhmmm, servicing all along.
The New York Times reported that the real name of the prostitute — identified as "Kristen" in court papers alleging that Gov. Eliot Spitzer paid more than $4,000 for her services — is Ashley Alexandra Dupre.
Dupre's MySpace page provides a window into her life as she went from a broken home in New Jersey to a music career in the city.
"I have been alone. I have abused drugs. I have been broke and homeless. But, I survived, on my own. I am here, in NY because of my music," she wrote.
She told the newspaper she had slept very little since the allegations against Spitzer were revealed.
Dupre told the Times she worried about paying her rent in a ninth-floor Manhattan apartment after her boyfriend recently left her. She said she was considering moving back in with her family in New Jersey.
She declined to comment when asked by the Times when she first met Spitzer and how many times they had been together.
Riiiiighht. Cry me a couple of friggin' rivers, shawty.
Are we really supposed to be sympathetic for this woman? She knew full and well what she was doing, and profiting quite nicely from all along. And the whole "I came from a broken home and I was forced to do this, and my Daddy was never there" angle isn't flyin' with me. Lots of women come from similar backgrounds and don't end up laying on their backs to pay their penthouse mortgage, so miss me with that bull****.
Prostitution is illegal on both sides of the transaction. Save your sympathy for the Dunbar Village victims. Neither Dupre nor Spitzer deserves an iota or it.
This being America and all, what's the over/under on how long it takes this chick to profit even more for her inconvenience by doing Playboy, getting a "Pretty Woman" style tell-all book deal, and of course, the obligatory WifeTime Movie Of The Week, starring either Tori Spelling or that other chick off 90201?
Divine Brown? Uhmm, not so much. Mrs. Spitzer either.
