Condi For Veep?

This picture needs a caption. Drop one in the comments, please.

Last week, I told ya'll I doubted Condoleezza Rice would continue with a career in politricks after her gig's up in January. She was once considered a Presidential candidate in 08', but her popularity and reputation have taken big hits in Bush's 2nd term, and I hadn't heard a peep about her doing anything of the sort in eons.

Well, wouldn't you know it, AB is actually wrong for a change. Turns out she's angling for the next best thing.
ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the vice presidential nomination, Republican strategist Dan Senor said.

“Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite.

Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign.

John McCain promptly came out today and said he had heard nothing of the sort, which is basically code for "damnit, who leaked the story, already?". Unless something dramatically bad happens, we will likely have black folks on both sides of the ticket come the Fall.
I've said it many times before, I am a huge admirer of Dr. Rice, who is the consummate Credit To Her Race. I know it sounds completely illogical given my total disdain for her political views and party but seriously, you can't possibly discount the woman's accomplishments. Last week's CYIN Moment made her a little more human and a bit less plastic, which was refreshing.

One of the things I was somewhat looking forward to was her inevitable autobiography (don't they all write one once out of office?). Getting the story-behind-the-story of what makes this woman tick and how she's managed to hurdle the double whammy of racism and sexism en route to becoming the Most Powerful Woman In The World (bwaaaaa haaaahhaaa!!) would have been interesting to say the least, assuming she could be somewhat transparent. Alas, this will have to wait a few more months, as McCain/Rice will inevitably get trounced by the Obama/Edwards Express. And yeah, I know Edwards publicly said he wasn't interested in the Number Two Spot last week himself. That's just code for "are ya'll gonna book my Southwest Airlines flight to Denver or do I have to use my Rapid Rewards?".

Either way, the talking heads are already jibber jabbering about how having Rice on the ticket will help the GGG-O-P-Uniiiiitttt win inroads with black voters and siphon off some of this valuable electorate from Obama. Sorry, but I don't really see that happening. Even if Clinton somehow steals manages to win the Democratic nomination, I just don't see black folks falling for 12 straight years of Bushonomics. You'd have better luck trying to convince Black America to buy Gregory Abbott's Greatest Hits. Nice try, but we ain't that gullible.

Still, adding Condi to the mix at least will make for an interesting Fall. I guess that's about all you can ask for.

Question: Do you think Condi Rice is a solid VP choice? Would adding her help the GOP with the Black vote? And just how many versions of Shake You Down would that Gregory Abbott's Greatest Hits have to contain to come up with 7 songs?
