After watching Sarah Palin's lousy performance thus far as John McCain's running mate, part of me is wondering why folks actually think she's got a chance in 2012. I suppose it's possible for her to grow more knowledgeable of, well, everything between now and then, but why would anyone think that her principle weaknesses (hokiness, lack of depth and general intelligence) are just going to magically disappear with time? That makes zero sense, and just seems to reinforce the fact that the GOP is likely screwed for the next decade.
Still, Palin has been touted as some trailblazer, which is just silly. She's not even running for President. She's not the first woman to be tabbed as VP nomination. Heck, she's not even the last woman standing. Crazy Cynthia McKinney and her running mate Rosa Clemente may have a snowball's chance, but just how much worse is that chance than Palin's?
Before the poll widget mysteriously blew up on Wednesday and I had to remove it prematurely, an overwhelming majority (95%) of you said Crazy Cynthia had a better shot at The Number One Spot than Palin, which says either of three things:
1) Ya'll are racist.
2) Crazy Cynthia ain't the only one who's crazy.
3) You realize a jokey-joke poll when you see it.
Either way, this doesn't bode well for Palin's future career prospects. At least she has her old job to fall back on.
In other poll news, Barack Obama predictably cleaned John McCain's clock in Tuesday's debate. Not that you didn't already know this.
Nothing to see here, keep on moving.
This Week's Poll is all about the McCain campaign's recent turn for the ugly.
