A Hero Ain't Nothin' But A Sandwich...

How soon we forget. Just two days ago, a man literally gave his life to protect and spare the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians from a crazed racist bastard. Two days later, Stephen Tyrone Johns Sr. is little more than a footnote on Page 8A, already whisked out of public conscience by such nonsense as Carrie Prejean's Miss California firing and the latest Foxy Knoxy update. And I'm throwing this out there, for all the rabble rousing they've done since Obama came on the scene, Fox News should be ashamed of themselves. Once again, not a single one of the station's primetime opinion shows even acknowledged the story last night. Cowards.

How soon we forget, but one person who won't forget is Stephen Tyrone Johns Jr., a now fatherless child. He won't have anyone there to tell him about the birds and the bees. To show him how to knot a tie. To drop him off at college. His father is gone, and well, quite honestly, already forgotten in this world of 24 hour news cycles.

A hero, is truly nothing but a sandwich.

Let me talk to my black folks for a second, alone please. The rest of ya'll, please move forward to the next post.

Folks, let's talk. When stuff like this happens, we are always quick to pop shit, quick to talk about how messed up things are, and ultimately, very slow to actually do anything about it. Mr. John's was shot and killed defending a Jewish institution. As expected, they have already (as they should) set up a fund in the child's name. I am sure that the many wealthy benefactors who fund the museum will put a bunch of money in the child's coffers. That, however, does not let Black America off the hook. Could we please, for once, give a f*ck, and actually do something instead of just leaving it to others?

I am asking, actually begging, each of you to take a moment right now to pray for this child, as well as the entire family Johns left behind, then to pull out your checkbooks and give a donation to Johns' Memorial Fund. Don't think about giving. Give. The info is below.
The American Jewish Committee's Washington chapter has set up a memorial fund to benefit the family of the security officer who was killed Wednesday at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

You can contribute to the fund in memory of Stephen Tyrone Johns using the AJC's online form, or send checks made out to the American Jewish Committee, with "Stephen T. Johns Memorial Fund" in the memo line, to:

American Jewish Committee - Washington Chapter
c/o Melanie Maron Pell
1156 15th Street, Suite 1201
Washington, DC 20005
202-785-5475

One hundred percent of the contributions will go to the Johns family, the AJC said.
Lets stop sitting around expecting others to do what we damn well know we should do for ourselves.
