A Grade-A A$$ Whipping.

I'm no MMA fan, and I realize I'm a bit late with this, but dang, was this Gina Carano/Cris Cyborg fight brutal or what? If you're easily bored, ffwd to the 5:00 mark. If you're squeamish, you might not wanna push that play button at all.

[Editor's Note: CBS is pulling the video, so watch this while you can. The bludgeoning begins at the 4:30 mark.]

Daaaaaaamn Gina!!!

I don't know the whole backstory, but apparently Carano was considered the Danica Patrick of MMA. A pretty face with some talent, but no real track record, boosted up to exploit her sex appeal for TV and PPV ratings. Heck, it worked because I Tivo'ed this one while I was out of town on vacation. Cyborg (is that her real last name?) as you can see, isn't exactly the prettiest young thang[1], so this was billed as Beauty vs The Beast.

Beast (obviously) won.

I've been sorta kinda trying to get into MMA the past few months since boxing is clearly a sport past its prime and I need my gratuitous violence quota filled somehow. But by trying to pass off gimmicky fighters (ie: Kimbo Slice) in the name of ratings, I wonder if this sport is dumbing itself down waaay too much to be taken seriously.

One thing not dumbed down, and definitely taken seriously: Cris Cyborg's punches. Ouch.

Question: Do you watch MMA? Did you peep Cyborg/Carano? Does the sport undermine its legitimacy by thrusting folks like Cyborg and Slice to the forefront to draw in casual viewers like me?

[1] Let's face it: lady look like a dude.
