Just a week ago, Conservative bigwigs were calling for Steele's head after he had the nerve to state the obvious: the GOP probably won't regain control of the House in 2012. Steele, by re-introducing the toxic name "Trent Lott" to the 24 hour news cycle, managed to get himself a reprieve for a few days. Or so he thought.
Some members of the Republican National Committee are considering drafting a resolution that would ask chairman Michael Steele to stop promoting to his new book and focus on leading the party. The resolution could also demand that Steele turn over proceeds from the book over to the RNC.I have to admit, watching all this GOP in-fighting is hilarious. Watching Steele on TV anytime is like a live action reality show. Something stoopid is going to be said sooner or later. How can you not tune in?
If members move forward with the idea, the measure would be introduced at the committee winter meeting in Hawaii later this month. But no resolution has been written, and it's not clear how much support such a maneuver would have on the committee. Several members had not even heard of the proposal until they were asked about it by CNN on Wednesday.
David Norcross, a longtime committee member from New Jersey and one of the people involved in the discussions, said that at this point, the proposal is just "a suggestion flying around" via e-mail. Still, Norcross said, "I will take a look at it, it's a way forward to get us beyond this controversy," he said.
Steele has been taking heat for a series of off-message remarks made during the media tour for his book, most notably his remark that Republicans aren't likely to take back the House in November. That comment infuriated GOP staffers and communications strategists on Capitol Hill who later said they were not consulted on the book or its contents.
Instead of giving the boring and vapid Miss Sarah a TV show[1], maybe Fox News should get Steele back on retainer. Lord knows it's only a matter of time before he rejoins the ranks of the unemployed.
Question: Is it wrong for the GOP to try and prevent Mike Steele from gettin' that book money? How long before he gets the boot by the GOP? Did the GOP really think this one through, or did they just want their own Obama?

[1] I actually tuned in to her "virgin appearance" as a paid Fox News hack on last night's O'Reilly Factor. Man, that chick is just boring as a bag of rocks. Upon second thought, if she's just going to spout talking points, blame others for her misfortune, and read off a teleprompter everytime on air, I think folks will start tuning out really soon.
