Well, it's that time of year again. The weather's nice, the birds are chirpin', and a cruise through any neighborhood with the windows down will tell you everyone's cookin' out. The question is, with what?
I used to like charcoal. It's hard to argue that it's not superior when it comes to overall flavor. But charcoal also kinda sucks. You gotta clean the grill, empty the old coals, arrange a bag full of new ones, apply just the right amount of lighter fluid, get the fire started and pray it stays going, play with the vents and tray height to keep things cooking evenly, and then douse the coals to put them out. Who the hell has this kinda time on their hands just to cook a freakin' burger.
And that's why I stan for propane. Not Hank Hill-level stannery, but pretty dang close.
I got a mean 5 burner stainless steel grill on the patio that's used year round. All you do is open the tank valve, click on the burners you want lit, and 10 minutes later, it's grillin' time. That's all there is to it. Propane's much cheaper ($20 for a tank that lasts about 6-9 months) and easier to manage than buying charcoal and lighter fluid. And truth be known, since you can use wood chips and indirect heating just as effectively as on a charcoal grill, after awhile, the taste difference is essentially a wash.
I say "Taste The Meat, Not The Heat!" What say, ye'?
Question: Do you prefer gas or charcoal grills? Is there really than much of a difference in the taste of the food?
