AB.com Guest Post - Are Conservative Women "Hotter" Than Liberals?!?

[Editor's Note: Late guest post today. I'm behind the 8 ball, so my main man Shady Grady goes in on the weird intersection of sexism and politricks in the GOP.]

Fox News Channel has long made a habit of hiring a variety of stereotypically attractive Caucasian women, particularly blondes. Short skirts, big hair and tight tops are par for the course at Fox News. And some Republicans have often snickered that many of the more prominent Democratic political women or women publicly identified with liberal or Democratic causes are not exactly all that good looking. Although I don’t think Palin is all that attractive she’s better looking than the average woman politician. And some guys felt more strongly than that.

Remember Rich Lowry’s comment about Sarah Palin?
I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing.

You fiancée will always like titoni watches & cheap watches, go hurry and buy from an amass where cheap movado watches as well thomas sabo chain are found in bulk quantity after getting advantage of cell phone.

It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it.
While that might tell you more about Rich Lowry and his interests than you care to know one can’t deny that there is a perception among some of the Right that Democratic women are unshaven viragos whose primary attraction to feminism and liberal politics is that they can’t find a man. This is all BS of course but it seems to be something that comes up again and again –this time in Minnesota.
A local Minnesota Republican Party operative yesterday waded into one of the signature political issues of our time: "Who's hotter — Republican women or Democratic women?"

The Senate District 56 GOP Party posted a Web video yesterday laying out its position on the hotness question. It leads with images of prominent Republicans such as Sarah Palin, Michelle Malkin, and Michele Bachmann; the soundtrack, naturally, is the Tom Jones chestnut, "She's a Lady."

Then, there's an abrupt switch to the other side of the aisle. The theme is subtly conveyed with the strains of the Baha Men hit "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Photos of Michelle Obama, Janet Reno, Rosie O'Donnell and Hillary Clinton flash on the screen.

The video quickly made its viral way through the blogosphere, and provoked strong reaction from state politicos and others. State Democratic chairman Brian Melendez called the video "sexist and offensive."
The Republicans took the video down but of course now it is on YouTube.

Some (all??) of the imagery of the Democratic women was Photoshopped of course...

Question: Is this just harmless fun or does this hint at a deeper sexist Republican and/or male discomfort with powerful women? Why do Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi receive so many attacks on their looks? Why do these Republican attack ads never seem to mention Democratic women like Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Scherzinger, Tatyana Ali etc. Is this just Republican projection? Do Republicans really think Ann Coulter or Laura Ingraham are attractive?
