Al Sharpton Completely DESTROYS Tea Party Congressman.

As I've said many times here, I like Al Sharpton. I think the guy gets unfairly lumped in with his contemporary Jesse Jackson, where there are really few parallels between the two. Sharpton runs the National Action Network, a mostly respectable organization that's quietly crossed over into issues like gay marriage and immigration in recent years. His protest run for President in 2004 was the impetus to his gradual transition to the mainstream. His national radio show is pretty good. His move to MSNBC host has been encouraging thus far, mostly because he's the sort of host who won't allow any bullsh*t to go unchallenged.

Case in point, some freshman GOP Congressman named Mo Brooks (is that an NBA player's name or what?) made the grave mistake of showing up on Rebb'n Al's show the other day to defend the party's resistance to raising taxes in exchange for a debt ceiling compromise. The results, well, they speak for themselves.



Rebb'n Al's never been mistaken for an intellectual giant (then again, neither has any other cable news host), but the ease with which he dissects this guy's standard Tea Party talking points is both awesome (for Al) and sad (for Rep. Brooks). If the major tenets of your platform can be dismantled so easily, what does that say about the Tea Party and the "Real Americans" that sent them to DC? I think it says the party is little more than a Grand Hu$tle and power grab by the party's elite, cleverly disguised as "Real American" populism. But that's just me.

I think Sharpton proved just how flimsy the Tea Party platform really is. I also think Rep. Brooks should fire whatever staffer booked him on this show. Seriously, this was a bad look.
