I don't really know what to make of this, but despite still trailing Hillary Clinton by a sizable margin in the early polls, Barack Obama continues to "get money", this time to the tune of $32.5 MILLION DOLLARS ("aaahhhaaaahahaha!" Dr. Evil ™)!!!
For months, Hillary Rodham Clinton has been running her presidential campaign as a front-runner, establishing an image of steady inevitability. Barack Obama unsteadied her. By raising a dazzling $32.5 million and outpacing Clinton by $10 million in primary election money, Obama succeeded in making his chief rival look mortal.I'll be honest, when Obama flopped in that first NH debate, I saw the writing on the wall. Hillary's visibility and influence only continue to grow. When she dropped that Sopranos style ad a few weeks ago, I figured it was lights out.
Clinton still leads in national polls and is strong in early primary states like New Hampshire and Florida. Obama now leads in fundraising and number of donors — an impressive 258,000 during the first six months of the year.
Neither ensures success in the voting booth.
Then again, history doesn't always bode well for the early runner. Howard Dean looked untouchable till Iowa, so anything can happen. If Barack gets sharpens his debate game and starts chipping away at that lead, we might have a game after all.
But in my heart of hearts, I just don't think America is ready for a mulatto president named Barack Hussein Obama. Maybe in my lifetime, but not in 08'.
I'd love to be proven wrong.
