Are White People Scurred Of "Magic" Mike Steele?!?

For months now, I've chronicled the ongoing saga of "Magic" Mike Steele's quest to grow the GOP's admittedly small, and non-inclusive tent. The man's had his share of ups and downs, from cleaning house at the RNC, to insulting GOP Grand Puba Rush Limbaugh (and subsequently backtracking), suggesting that the GOP could attract minorities with rap music, fried chicken, and collard greens, and even pissing on President Obama's Nobel Prize with a level of disrespect that even had fellow Republicans calling for an apology.



Still, it's hard not to feel some sympathy for the guy. Unlike many on his side, he seems genuine in his convictions, not merely out for a check. But it's also clear he's a guy that gets high on his own supply, and he's clearly headed for a very public, and very ugly dismissal before all's said and done. You and I know this. Hell, Stevie Wonder can see it coming.

I'm wondering if this might be the straw that breaks the HNIC's back.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Sunday that he has been in rooms with white Republicans who are “scared” of him.

Responding during a interview to TV One’s Roland Martin, who said that “white Republicans have been scared of black folks,” Steele replied: “You’re absolutely right.”

“I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me,” said Steele, the first African-American RNC chairman. “I’m like, ‘I’m on your side.’”

Asked how Republicans can better reach black voters, Steele said the party needs to focus on “education and the economy” and credited Governors-elect Chris Christie in New Jersey and Bob McDonnell in Virginia for running a message that could appeal to black voters.

What is it with Magic Mike and all this barbershop talk. Have ya'll noticed that anytime he gets around an exclusively black group, he has the tendency to say some "real n****a sh*t" that's almost always on point, but perilously contradictory to his position as gatekeeper of the GOP? On DL Hughley's lousy, now defunct CNN show, Steele asserted that Limbaugh was merely an entertainer and a sideshow who was distracting from the party's efforts to reach out to minorities. Now, on ex-CNN backup QB Roland Martin's TV One show, Mike goes for broke again.

You and I can already see the talk radio calls for Steele's head, the Steele retraction, the subsequent blaming of the liberal media for twisting Steele's words coming. In fact, the apology will probably hit the wires before you read this.

Reality is, there's nothing even remotely scary about Mike Steele, except maybe those hideous The Steve Harvey HNIC Collection zoot suits.

Even Stevie Wonder wouldn't rock one of them jawns.

Question: How much longer does Mike Steele have before the GOP tells him to go play in traffic? Is the GOP scared of Steele, or does "he be da' man"?!?
