Ashy Or Classy?!? - T-Pain's "PYT" Remake.

There are some songs that are unofficially considered Untouchable Negro Classics™. People hear the first 3 seconds of these songs and already know each and every lyric. Considering how black music (and culture in general) has been co-opted and outright stolen by others, we as a people tend to frown upon remakes of certain songs. In short, there's some sh*t that shouldn't ever, under na'er circumstances, be redone.

I'm sure ya'll know what I'm talking about and will provide a million such examples in the comments section. My personal nominee would be Maze ft. Frankie Beverly's classic "Before I Let You Go". Nobody's ballsy enough to even attempt to touch that one.

I wasn't the biggest Aaliyah fan, but watching R&B "singer" The Dream get ripped to shreds for daring to redo "One In A Million" earlier this year showed just how some people stan for their favorite artists, even after they're long gone. The Dream got plastered on Twitter, urban radio, and a million blogs, and eventually apologized for that digital botched abortion, but the harm was already done.

Now, equally dubious talent T-Pain finds himself in the crosshairs for daring to remake another Negro classic.

Singer T-Pain has received a lot of opposition to his auto-tuned re-make of Michael Jackson's 1983 hit “P.Y.T” for Quincy Jones' tribute album Q: Soul Bossa Nostra.

Pain recently vented his frustrations about the people voicing their disagreement with his redo and revealed that the late MJ himself requested his services for the track saying,

“For all the ppl that hate mr for ruining pyt just stop listening to my sh*t. The f*cked up thing is everybody being so kind to mj after he's gone, but how can you wish a man to rest in peace when you never gave him peace in a life time?

I had the pleasure of meeting MJ and when I left his house I got a call from his lawyer telling mr that MJ wanted me to remake that song. So everybody that's being overly disrespectful, you don't have to like me at all, but you also can keep that bullsh*t to yourself.”

Teddy P went on to give his detractors some alternatives to spewing negative energy his way, saying,

“Like I said I'm making it my job to stay positive on twitter but this is why the image of my ppl is so f*cked up cuz we all are to envious and jealous of each other to get passed anything.

In conclusion, if you don't like what I do then stop listening to it, if somebody tells you that my sh*t is wak, why would you go and try to find it? Just stay off my timeline and my d*ck and get YO sh*t together, obviously I'm str8 yasimelike.”

Uhhh, alrighty then.

To T-Pain's (and duet partner Robin Thicke's) credit, he didn't just carelessly do a remake like The Dream did, he was actually asked to remake the song for an upcoming Quicy Jones compilation, allegedly by Jackson himself. I guess I can somewhat give him a pass for having good intent.

The song itself though? Uhhh, this is some ole' bullsh*t.



I mean, Jesus, that is just awful.

Definitely Ashy. Not even open for debate, case closed.
