The other day, I had to pleasure of having lunch with a couple of high school friends (you know who you are). Among the usual "how's the wife, how's the kids?" stuff, of course the conversation veered towards the inevitable "whatever happened to Tyrone from English class?" line of "where are they now?" Negro Nostalgia.
As we swapped stories, there were some bad things (so-and-so is in jail, lil' Man died), some good things (so-and-so got a Masters degree, lil' Man just got married), and some don't-quite-know-what-to-say things (so-and-so came out the closet, lil' Man is a MySpace rapper).
Still, the net-net was, for a small southern high school, our fellow black grads of the class of 90-something didn't turn out too bad after all.
This, naturally made me think about the blog, and some of the topics I've posted about in the past 4 months and 140+ posts here on AvBro. So, here's a few updates.
Josh Hancock - I told you guys a few months back that the family of the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher had no good cause the sue the bar that served him the drinks that ultimately lead to his demise. The family must read AvBro, because they just dropped the suit.
Pat Tillman - Donald Rumsfeld maintains that he had no idea Tillman was killed by friendly fire. Yeah, right.
Isaiah Washington - Fired from Grey's Anatomy for homophobic slurs, Washington to resurface this Fall on Bionic Woman TV show. Not really sure if this qualifies as a come up, but hey, he's working. Cut the check.
Keith Washington - The DC Area furniture deliveryman shooter was finally indicted this week.
VH1 Minstrel Reality Shows - I thought we we'd seen the last of these shows when I Love New York was outed, but apparently ratings talk, BS walks. Flavor of Love 3 is being casted now. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but chances are I'll tune in to find out anyway.
